Temperament and Personality

Picture

The Big Five from McCrae and Costa

Each of the five factors can be thought of as a spectrum. Each individual's profile will vary depending on where they land in each factor. Many of these traits can be traced back to infant attachment styles and seem to remain relatively consistent throughout life.

The Sixteen Types from Myers-Briggs

This personality scale is based on four dimensions of personality and the two distinct approaches within each. The first, extraversion or intraversion, has to do with a person's focus and where they draw vital energy. The second, sensing or intuition, is dependent on how an individual processes information. The third, thinking or feeling, indicates how a person likes to make decisions. The final, judging or perceiving, relates to the preference one has for considering the outside world.

The Enneagram

This personality assessment is designed around nine archetypes that are interrelated. Most people are combinations of types, but have tendencies that lead they to a dominant type. From the dominant type, you can see the most closely related types, which sometimes can show how the person reacts under stress or calm.
